CALL FOR PROPOSALS TO ORGANIZE WORKSHOPS “CURRENT TRENDS IN BIOMEDICINE”

In the framework of the preference field of Biomedicine, the International University of Andalusia (UNIA) will continue in 2013 the programme “Current Trends in Biomedicine”, started in 2004.

The aim of these workshops is to promote and improve both international cooperation and scientific exchange in the area of Biomedicine. Particularly, these workshops pretend to foster and facilitate scientific interaction of andalusian and iberoamerican researchers with the whole international scientific community.

Conditions of the call for proposals “Current Trends in Biomedicine”:

  1. These workshops will be held at the “Sede Antonio Machado”, in Baeza (Andalusia, Spain), in autumn 2013.
  2. The duration will be three days approximately.
  3. The working language will be English.
  4. Highly experienced, prestigious researchers in the corresponding field can submit their proposals to the UNIA in order to organize these workshops. Considering this criterion of specialization, participants can have any academic degree or professional category.
  5. Organizers can be three as maximum. In case that some organizer has some connection with an andalusian scientific institution, this circumstance will be evaluated positively in the general analysis of each proposal. An organizer cannot repeat that condition in another workshop of this series until at least 5 years from the organization of the corresponding workshop.
  6. Organizers will be speakers too, and the total number of speakers is 17, organizers included.
  7. Invited speakers must be top-level, highly experienced investigators in the corresponding field.
  8. The UNIA will cover all travel and accommodation expenses of the speakers.
  9. The workshops will have a maximum total attendance of around 50 people, including speakers; thus, the number of speakers will not exceed a third of the total attendance if the workshop is full (17 speakers + 33-35 participants).
  10. Geographical origin diversity of speakers is desired and will be evaluated positively.
  11. The inclusion of some iberoamerican scientist(s) in the list of speakers of the workshops will be evaluated positively.
  12. The fact that the organizers have contacted the invited speakers firmly, and that these show a clear will and intention to participate in the corresponding workshop, will be evaluated positively. It is necessary to include the positive responses of the invited speakers (or most of them) in the proposal.
  13. Another positive circumstance will be a serious commitment by organizers or invited speakers in order to write a meeting review or report (after the workshop) and publish it in a good scientific journal, with a satisfactory Science Citation Index.
  14. Other positive criterion to be considered is the possibility of sponsorship by some public or private institution linked to the workshop topic, if there is some document proving commitment or interest by the possible sponsor.

In addition to the speakers (17, including organizers), participants (33-35) can also contribute scientifically to the workshop and will be encouraged to present a poster to communicate their results. Among submitted poster abstracts, the organizers will select some of them, so that their authors can present orally their results too.

Proposals must be written in English, and must include:

-    Workshop title
-    Curriculum vitae of the organizers
-    Description of the workshop subject (3 pages)
