Resumen:
Abstract Book of the International Environmental Workshop. Sede Antonio Machado, Baeza, Spain, 2nd-4th Jun 2026.
“Sustainable Materials, Green Fuels and Carbon Valorization: the next generation of biorefineries” addresses the environmental, technological, and systemic challenges associated with the transition towards a low-carbon and circular economy. The workshop focuses on next-generation biorefineries as key instruments for climate change mitigation, sustainable resource management, and the reduction of dependence on fossilbased production systems. It explores the integrated development of sustainable materials, green fuels, and carbon valorization pathways, with particular emphasis on minimizing environmental impacts, improving carbon efficiency, and enhancing overall system sustainability through life cycle assessment, techno-economic analysis, and process integration.
The program brings together a highly international and interdisciplinary group of leading researchers in biomass conversion, materials science, catalysis, biotechnology, systems modelling, and sustainability assessment. Approximately 50% of the invited speakers come from abroad, highlighting the strong international character of the workshop and fostering cross-border scientific exchange. Through three thematic sessions, including dedicated spaces for PhD student presentations and discussion, the workshop promotes knowledge transfer, early-stage researcher mentoring, and the co-development of environmentally robust, scalable, and socially responsible biorefinery solutions with long-term scientific and societal impact.
